1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Classic Audio Upgrade

There's something special about driving a classic muscle car with the windows down, the cammed big block rumbling, and your favorite music playing in the background. The challenge is building an audio system that can keep up with all that horsepower without taking away from the car's vintage character.

For this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle, we designed a complete audio system that blends modern technology with a factory-inspired appearance. A Retro Manufacturing Motor4HD radio maintains the classic dashboard look while adding Bluetooth, HD Radio, high-voltage RCA outputs, and the features expected from a modern head unit.

To create strong front-stage sound, we installed Rockford Fosgate TMS65 6.5-inch coaxial speakers in custom kick panel pods. In the rear, Rockford Fosgate Punch P2V2HO 6x9-inch speakers were mounted beneath the package tray and play through a perforated shelf cover, preserving the original appearance while delivering impressive output.

Low-frequency performance comes from a Rockford Fosgate T1S-1X12 slim loaded enclosure mounted beneath the package tray and ported into the cabin. This unique installation provides powerful, deep bass without giving up valuable trunk space. Powering the entire system is a Rockford Fosgate PM1000X5 five-channel amplifier, delivering clean, efficient power to every speaker and subwoofer in the system.

The finished result is exactly what this Chevelle deserved—a stereo that's capable of cutting through the sound of a cammed big block, long-tube headers, and aggressive exhaust while preserving the timeless styling that makes this car an icon.
