The Story

The Baja 232 Islander has always been known for performance on the water, but its factory audio system couldn't match the excitement of the ride. This 1999 Baja came to Sound Connection ready for a complete audio transformation that would deliver premium sound without compromising reliability.

We installed two pairs of JL Audio MX650 marine speakers along with a JL Audio MX770 to provide crisp highs, detailed vocals, and powerful midbass throughout the cockpit. To create the kind of low-end impact expected from a performance boat, we added four JL Audio 8-inch marine subwoofers, giving the system deep, controlled bass that easily overcomes engine and wind noise.

Power comes from a 1,400-watt marine amplifier, providing clean, reliable output to the entire system. To support extended listening sessions without worrying about draining the starting battery, we also installed a dedicated auxiliary battery and marine battery switch, allowing the owner to enjoy the system at the sandbar while keeping reliable starting power in reserve.

The finished result completely modernizes this classic Baja. Powerful output, balanced sound, and dependable marine-grade equipment make this 232 Islander just as enjoyable to listen to as it is to drive. Whether running across the lake or spending the afternoon tied up with friends, this boat now has an audio system worthy of its performance pedigree.
