The Story

Performance boats deserve more than just speed—they deserve an audio system that keeps pace with the ride. This 2001 Checkmate ZT240 came to Sound Connection ready for a complete modernization, replacing aging equipment with a premium marine audio system built for today's technology and performance.

We started by replacing the factory Sony speakers with a set of JL Audio M3 6.5-inch marine speakers, delivering cleaner highs, richer midrange, and the durability needed for years of life on the water. To bring the low end to life, we custom-installed two Rockford Fosgate M2-10IB 10-inch infinite baffle marine subwoofers, providing deep, powerful bass without sacrificing valuable storage space or requiring bulky enclosures.

The original JL Audio 400/4 amplifier was upgraded to a Rockford Fosgate M2-750X5 five-channel marine amplifier, supplying clean, efficient power to the entire system while giving the subwoofers the authority they deserve. To complete the overhaul, we replaced the outdated non-marine head unit with a Sony MEX-M72BT marine receiver, adding Bluetooth connectivity and marine-grade reliability for years of dependable use.

The finished result completely transforms this Checkmate. Crystal-clear vocals, powerful midbass, deep low-frequency impact, and modern wireless connectivity make every trip across the lake more enjoyable. Whether cruising, opening it up across the water, or relaxing at the sandbar, this ZT240 now sounds every bit as impressive as it performs.
